We hope everybody had a great experience at this weekend’s 2018 Northern Cross Country Championships. We had a huge entry list of athletes this year from clubs throughout the North. We were so pleased to see again familiar friends from the clubs who have supported us for many years as well as new faces in the form of new running clubs entering our championships for the first time.
As you may know Northern Athletics is currently in the process of putting forward the proposal of an annual affiliation fee of £2 per registered athlete payable by your club on your behalf each year. England Athletics are not prepared to commit to further funding for us from April 2019 onwards. Without that funding Northern Athletics may have to fold. This is a course of action we must avoid in order to save this organisation which provides sixteen Northern championship events each year. Its absence in the competition calendar would sever the important pathway for athletes and their coaches as well as losing this level of event for our officials to thrive.
We already have many clubs committing to our scheme and we will be asking all our clubs to make a decision by the 1st April this year. Clubs have until the 15th February to ask questions and raise issues as part of a consultation process. We hope your club will commit to us and save Northern Athletics.
